Relief for radiating leg pain and a stiff, aching lower back
Low back pain is the most common reason people walk into our Waterloo clinic. Sometimes it stays in the back; sometimes it travels down the buttock and leg as sciatica, with burning, tingling or numbness along the path of the sciatic nerve. Either way, the pain is rarely caused by the spot that hurts alone. Stiff hips, a tight pelvis, weak deep stabilisers or an irritated disc all change how the lower back loads, and the back pays for it.
Our approach is to find what is driving the irritation and treat that, so relief lasts instead of returning every few weeks.
Common signs
- Dull, aching or sharp pain across the lower back, worse after sitting or first thing in the morning
- Pain, tingling or numbness that runs from the buttock down the back of the thigh and calf
- Pain that flares with bending, lifting, coughing or long drives
- Muscle spasm and difficulty standing fully upright
How we treat sciatica and low back pain
Osteopathy restores movement in the lumbar spine, pelvis and hips and takes pressure off the irritated nerve. Focal Shockwave Therapy and Radial Pressure Wave Therapy release the deep gluteal and lumbar muscles that commonly compress the sciatic nerve. Class IV Laser Therapy calms inflammation around the nerve root, and TCM & Acupuncture is often added for nerve pain and muscle guarding. For arthritic or degenerative backs, EMTT Therapy supports tissue repair without any contact or discomfort.
You do not need a referral or imaging to start. A thorough assessment on your first visit tells us which of these will help you most.
What to expect
Your first visit is an assessment and treatment in one. We look at how you move, test the nerve and the joints involved, and start hands-on treatment the same day. Most people notice a change within three to five visits. You will also leave with two or three simple movements to keep the progress going between appointments.
